Medical and Allied Health Science Services

The Directorate of Medical and Allied Health Science Services was established in 1996 after the establishment of the Ocean Road Cancer Institute.
Formally, it was known as the Directorate of Medical Services but in 2013 the organogram was reviewed and changed the name to the Directorate of Medical and Allied Health Services. Almost all clinical services are provided under this directorate with exception of private clinical services.
The directorate is comprised of seven (7) Sections namely; Laboratory, Radiology and Imaging, Clinical oncology, Radiotherapy, Nursing, Pharmacy and Palliative care. The core business of the directorate is diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Radiotherapy

Radiotherapy department has been identified as the ‘heart of the institute’ for many years because it makes the Institute unique and specialized health Institute. Ocean Road Cancer Institute is the only Institute that provide radiotherapy treatment services in the country.

Radiology and Imaging

In 2007, Radiology Section was separated from AHSD, became an independent department – Clinical Radiology Division (CRD) until 2013 after restructuring of the ORCI organizational structure whereby some of the divisions were removed from the list. From that time it was changed to Radiology and Imaging Section (RIS)

Clinical Oncology

Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer patients.
The Clinical Oncology section was established in 2010.

Nursing

The Nursing Services, guided by the strategic vision of the ORCI, seeks to provide care that meets the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of the patient, without discrimination, and to support the patient’s family (caregivers) during the cancer trajectory.

Pharmacy

It is generally deal with issues related to pharmaceuticals (procurement from MSD, storage, handling and dispensing of medicines to the patients).
We are health professions that links health sciences with chemical sciences and aims to ensure the safe and effective use of pharmaceutical drugs specialty in cancer.

Laboratory

We performs complex tests that help other healthcare professionals such as physicians detect, diagnose, and treat diseases especial cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
We also performs chemical, hematological, immunologic, histopathological, cytopathological, microscopic, and bacteriological diagnostic analyses on body fluids such as blood, urine, sputum, stool, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), peritoneal fluid, pericardial fluid, and synovial fluid, as well as other specimens.
